ABOUT CHEMICAL PEELS

At Skin Body & Soul Med Studio, we offer the Perfect Derma Peel, the PQ Age Peel, & the PRX Derm Perfexion treatment. All three incorporate various active ingredients to exfoliate, rejuvenate, & renew the skin from within. These are considered medical-grade, medium-depth treatments designed to improve skin texture, tone, & overall radiance—with varying degrees of downtime to fit your lifestyle and goals.

The Perfect Derma Peel is a medium-depth chemical peel designed to improve the overall tone, texture, & clarity of your skin. It’s one of the only medical-grade peels that includes glutathione, a powerful antioxidant, which helps brighten the skin & fight signs of aging.
Key ingredients: TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid), Retinoic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Kojic Acid, Phenol, Vitamin C, & Glutathione.

The PQ Age Peel is a non-invasive, no-downtime chemical peel designed to deeply rejuvenate the skin without visible peeling. It’s often called a "lifting peel" because it provides immediate firmness, brightness, & smoothness, making it popular for special events or ongoing skin maintenance.
Key ingredients: TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid), Kojic Acid, Coenzyme Q10, & Peptides.

PRX Derm Perfexion (formerly PRX-T33) is a next-generation, no-downtime chemical treatment that delivers the results of a peel—without actual peeling or flaking. Unlike traditional peels that exfoliate the skin’s surface, PRX penetrates deep into the dermis to stimulate collagen production & skin regeneration from within, while leaving the top layer intact. This means tighter, brighter, smoother skin with no visible downtime, making it perfect for all skin tones & seasons (yes, even summer!). PRX is ideal for treating fine lines, dullness, skin laxity, acne scars, enlarged pores, & uneven skin tone. It can also be safely combined with microneedling to enhance its collagen-stimulating effects for even more transformative results.
Key ingredients: TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid) 33%, Hydrogen Peroxide, & Kojic Acid.

wHAT IT IS

A chemical peel involves applying a chemical solution to your face to remove damaged skin cells & stimulate a fresher, younger-looking complexion. When the dull, damaged surface layer of your skin is removed, new, healthier cells grow in its place. Different types of chemical peels use various acids, some stronger than others, to target specific skin concerns.

The Perfect Derma Peel works by applying a blend of powerful acids & antioxidants to the skin, which gently exfoliates the top layers. Over the next few days, the damaged outer skin peels away, revealing fresh, renewed skin underneath. This process stimulates collagen production & targets concerns like acne, discoloration, & fine lines for a clearer, more youthful complexion.

The PQ Age Peel works by delivering active ingredients like TCA & kojic acid deep into the skin, where they stimulate cell renewal without damaging the surface. This triggers collagen production & improves skin tone, texture, & elasticity from within. Because it doesn’t cause visible peeling, it’s a great option for those wanting noticeable results with no downtime.

PRX Derm Perfexion works differently from traditional chemical peels by stimulating skin renewal beneath the surface without exfoliating the top layer of skin. A unique combination of TCA, hydrogen peroxide, & kojic acid penetrates into the dermis, activating collagen & elastin production while protecting the outer skin barrier. This results in firmer, smoother, brighter skin with no visible peeling or downtime. PRX improves skin texture, laxity, fine lines, acne scarring, & overall radiance, making it a powerful year-round treatment that delivers immediate glow with long-term rejuvenation.

how it works

With the Perfect Derma Peel, your skin may feel warm or tingly during the application. The peel will stay on for several hours before you wash it off at home. Peeling typically begins around day 2 or 3 & can last up to a week—this is completely normal & part of the renewal process. During this time, avoid picking or peeling the skin, follow the post-care instructions carefully, & expect to see brighter, smoother skin once peeling is complete.

With the PQ Age Peel, the treatment is painless & relaxing, with a slight warming or tingling sensation during application. There’s no visible peeling afterward, so you can return to normal activities right away with refreshed, glowing skin. Results—like improved texture, brightness, & firmness—are often noticeable after just one session, with continued improvement over a series of treatments.

With PRX Derm Perfexion, the treatment is quick, comfortable, & requires no downtime. You may feel a mild tingling or tightening sensation as the solution is gently massaged into the skin in multiple passes. Unlike traditional peels, there is no visible flaking or peeling—your skin will feel instantly firmer, smoother, & more radiant. You can return to your daily routine immediately, making it ideal even before events or busy weeks. Results continue to improve with each treatment, especially when done in a series.

All three treatments take approximately 30 minutes.

    • The Perfect Derma Peel is typically done as a series of 3 treatments, spaced 3–4 weeks apart, with maintenance every 6–12 months depending on your skin goals.

    • The PQ Age Peel & PRX Derm Perfexion are each performed as a series of 4 treatments, spaced 1 week apart. These treatments build on each other to stimulate collagen, improve skin tone & texture, & enhance overall radiance. Maintenance sessions are recommended every 2–3 months to maintain results.

  • Both the Perfect Derma Peel & the PQ Age Peel are considered painful, but the Perfect Derma Peel is a bit more intense, while the PQ Age Peel is known for being super gentle.

PRX Derm Perfexion is also very well-tolerated—most patients describe a mild tingling or tightening sensation during application. There’s no pain, no numbing required, & no downtime, making it a comfortable option for even the most sensitive skin types.

    • Perfect Derma Peel:
Expect visible peeling to start around day 2 or 3 & last about 5–7 days. During this time, your skin may look flaky or shedding—especially around the mouth & chin. You’ll need to follow post-care instructions carefully & avoid picking at the skin.

    • PQ Age Peel:
No visible downtime at all! You can go right back to your day with glowing skin—no redness, no flaking, just a refreshed look. It's perfect before events or when you want results without the recovery.

It’s an ideal option before vacations, photos, or special events when you want to glow without waiting.

  • For the Perfect Derma Peel & PQ Age peel, results are often seen after one treatment; however, multiple treatments are recommended to see optimal results. Maintenance treatments are recommended every 3-6 months.

With PRX Derm Perfexion, you’ll notice an immediate glow & skin tightening effect after your first treatment, with continued improvement over a series of sessions. Results build with each appointment, as collagen production increases beneath the surface. A full series includes 4 treatments spaced 1 week apart, with maintenance every 2–3 months to keep your skin looking firm, radiant, & refreshed year-round.

  • No, not all chemical peels are the same. Chemical peels vary based on the type of acid used, the concentration, the depth they reach in the skin, & the specific concerns they are designed to treat. Some peels focus on surface exfoliation, while others stimulate deeper layers of the skin to trigger collagen production & long-term rejuvenation.

There are four main types of peeling agents:

    • AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) like glycolic or lactic acid, which exfoliate the outermost layer of the skin

    • BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) like salicylic acid, ideal for oily or acne-prone skin

    • TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid) commonly used in medium-depth peels to improve tone, texture, & signs of aging

    • Phenol, used in deeper peels for more advanced skin concerns

Peels also come in different depths:

    • Light peels work on the epidermis (outer layer) & offer subtle improvements with little to no downtime

    • Medium-depth peels target the epidermis & upper dermis to address more significant concerns like pigmentation, fine lines, & acne scarring

    • Deep peels penetrate further into the dermis & require significant downtime but can deliver dramatic results

Some advanced treatments—like certain TCA-based peels—are specially formulated to penetrate the skin & stimulate cellular renewal without visible peeling, offering firmer, brighter skin with minimal disruption to daily life. These newer-generation options can be especially beneficial for patients wanting consistent results with no downtime.

Ultimately, the right peel for you depends on your skin type, concerns, & desired level of downtime. A personalized consultation will help determine which treatment is best suited to your goals.

  • As with any medical-grade skin treatment, some mild side effects are possible, but they are typically short-lived & manageable. Here’s what you can expect with each of the chemical peels offered at Skin Body & Soul Med Studio:

    • Perfect Derma Peel:
Because this is a medium-depth peel, the most common side effect is visible peeling that begins around day 2 or 3 & can last up to a week. During this time, you may experience redness, dryness, tightness, or a mild stinging sensation. It’s important to avoid picking or peeling the skin, & to follow all post-care instructions to support healing & prevent complications like hyperpigmentation.

    • PQ Age Peel:
This peel is known for being very gentle with minimal risk of side effects. Some patients may experience temporary warmth, tightness, or a slight tingling sensation during application. Redness is uncommon, & there's no visible peeling. Rarely, sensitive skin types may notice minor dryness or tightness in the days following treatment.

    • PRX Derm Perfexion:
PRX is also very well-tolerated, with no visible peeling or downtime. Some patients may feel a temporary tingling, warmth, or tightness during the application. Mild redness or sensitivity may occur shortly after the treatment but typically resolves within a few hours. Because the skin barrier remains intact, side effects are minimal compared to traditional peels.

All three treatments are considered safe for most skin types when performed by a trained professional. A pre-treatment consultation will help determine the best option for your skin & ensure the safest, most effective outcome.

  • Before a Perfect Derma Peel:

To ensure the best results & reduce the risk of irritation or side effects, there are a few important steps you should follow before any chemical peel. While all three treatments—PQ Age Peel, Perfect Derma Peel, & PRX Derm Perfexion—are non-surgical & non-invasive, proper skin prep can make a big difference.

General guidelines for all chemical peels:

    • Avoid retinoids, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, & other exfoliating products for at least 5–7 days before your appointment.

    • Stay out of direct sun exposure & avoid tanning beds for at least 1 week prior to your treatment.

    • Do not wax, shave, or use depilatory creams in the treatment area 48 hours before your appointment.

    • Let us know if you’re using Accutane, antibiotics, or any other prescription medications, as these may affect your skin’s sensitivity.

    • Avoid in-office treatments such as lasers, microneedling, or other peels for at least 2 weeks before your scheduled peel.

    • If you have active cold sores, open wounds, or recent sunburn, your treatment may need to be rescheduled.

    Additional notes for each peel:

    Perfect Derma Peel:
Because this is a medium-depth peel with visible peeling, we may recommend prepping the skin with a medical-grade skincare regimen several days in advance, especially if you're treating hyperpigmentation. You’ll also be given specific post-care instructions at the time of your visit—it's helpful to plan ahead for a few days of downtime.

    PQ Age Peel:
This gentle, no-downtime peel does not require extensive pre-treatment prep, but following the general guidelines above will help avoid irritation. It’s best to arrive with clean skin & avoid applying makeup or skincare before your appointment.

    PRX Derm Perfexion:
PRX requires no special pre-treatment skincare, but your skin should be calm, hydrated, & free of irritation. Avoid exfoliating or using actives for several days before your visit. Arrive with a clean face, & we’ll take care of the rest!

    • Discontinue certain skincare products: Stop using any retinoids (like Retin-A) or products with glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or Vitamin C at least 3–5 days before the peel.

    • Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to keep the skin well-hydrated.

    • Cleanse: Make sure your skin is free of makeup or any skincare products on the day of your treatment.

    • Avoid sun exposure: Stay out of direct sun or tanning beds for at least a week before the treatment to avoid irritation or damage to the skin.

    • Waxing, threading, or intense exfoliation for at least 1 week before the peel.

    • Laser treatments or any aggressive skin treatments for at least 2 weeks prior.

    Before a PQ Age Peel:

    Do:

    • Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to prepare your skin for the treatment.

    • Cleanse: Cleanse your face thoroughly before your appointment to remove any makeup, oils, or dirt.

    • Avoid sun exposure: Limit sun exposure for a few days leading up to the peel to minimize skin irritation.

    Avoid:

    • Using retinoids or other exfoliating products for at least 3 days before the peel.

    • Heavy sun exposure or tanning beds for at least a week prior.

    • Waxing or intense facial treatments for at least 1 week before the peel.

    General Tips for Both:

    • Avoid active breakouts or open wounds in the treatment area, as it could increase irritation or discomfort.

    • Consult your provider if you're pregnant or have specific skin conditions, as some treatments may need adjustment.

  • Aftercare is essential for maximizing results & protecting your skin as it heals. Each chemical peel has slightly different post-care instructions depending on its depth & effect on the skin.

    General guidelines for all peels:

    • Avoid direct sun exposure & always wear broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher.

    • Skip the gym, hot showers, saunas, & excessive sweating for at least 24–48 hours.

    • Do not use retinoids, exfoliants, or active skincare ingredients until your provider gives the all-clear.

    • Avoid makeup for the first 24 hours (or longer if peeling is present).

    • Never pick, rub, or peel flaking skin—this can lead to scarring or pigmentation.

    Perfect Derma Peel:

You’ll be sent home with a post-peel kit containing soothing wipes, a moisturizer, & detailed instructions. Peeling typically begins on day 2 or 3 & may last up to 7 days. Avoid touching or picking at the skin. Stick to gentle, hydrating products & let the peeling process happen naturally. It’s important to stay out of the sun & wear SPF daily, even indoors near windows.

    PQ Age Peel:

This is a no-downtime treatment, so you can return to your routine right away. You may notice a slight tightening or glow immediately after, with continued improvement over time. Keep your skin hydrated, avoid harsh products for 1–2 days, & wear SPF daily to maintain results. For best outcomes, follow the full treatment series.

    PRX Derm Perfexion:

After treatment, your skin will look fresh, tight, & radiant. You may be given a special at-home moisturizer (such as WiQo) to enhance & extend your results. Avoid active ingredients (like retinol or acids) for 2–3 days, & focus on hydration & sun protection. Since there's no visible peeling, you can wear makeup the next day if desired—but keeping your skin makeup-free for 24 hours is ideal.
