DERMAL FILLERS
Lip Filler, Cheek Filler, Chin Filler, Nasolabial Folds & more
If you’re considering enhancing your facial features, dermal fillers offer a non-surgical option that may help restore volume & smooth fine lines & wrinkles. At Skin Body & Soul Med Studio, we offer a select few of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) dermal fillers tailored to target specific areas such as lips, cheeks, jawline, & nasolabial folds.
ABOUT DERMAL FILLERS
Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are one of the most popular types of dermal fillers due to their natural composition & effectiveness in providing youthful, natural-looking results. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that naturally occurs in the body, especially in the skin, joints, & eyes. It helps to retain moisture, contributing to plump, hydrated, & smooth skin.
wHAT IT IS
When injected into the skin, HA fillers attract water to the treated area, adding volume & hydration. This makes them ideal for addressing concerns such as:
Wrinkles & fine lines – especially around the mouth (laugh lines) & eyes (crow’s feet).
Loss of facial volume – especially in areas like the cheeks or temples, which may hollow with age.
Lip enhancement – for fuller, more defined lips.
Under-eye hollows – for a fresher, less tired appearance.
Facial contouring – like adding volume to the chin or jawline.
HOW IT WORKS
The duration of the dermal filler procedure typically ranges from 1 to 2 hours, depending on the areas being treated. Some mild swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site is common but generally resolves within a few days. Results are often visible immediately, with improvements continuing over the next 2-3 weeks as the filler integrates with your skin. Depending on the type of filler used & the area treated, results can last between 6 to 24 months. For the best experience, follow all aftercare instructions provided by your practitioner.
WHAT TO EXPECT
FAQs
-
Dermal fillers typically contain lidocaine, an anesthetic that may help minimize discomfort during the procedure. Some patients may experience a mild pinching sensation during the injections. To further reduce any potential discomfort, a topical numbing agent can also be applied before the procedure. Individual experiences with pain or discomfort can vary.
-
Dermal fillers usually require minimal downtime, but this can vary from person to person. Common side effects include redness, bruising, swelling, tenderness, or itching around the injection sites, which typically resolve within a few days. To allow time for healing, it’s advisable to avoid scheduling important events for a few days post-treatment.

1 Week Before:
Avoid blood-thinning medications (if medically safe to do so): Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin),
Naproxen (Aleve), Fish oil,
Vitamin E,
Ginkgo biloba,
St. John’s Wort
If you’re on prescription blood thinners, check with your doctor before stopping anything.
2–3 Days Before:
Stop alcohol & limit caffeine intake — both can increase bruising risk.
Stay well-hydrated — HA loves water, so healthy hydration helps you get the most from your results.
Consider taking Arnica montana (an herbal supplement) to help prevent bruising. Some people start this a couple of days before & continue afterward.
Day Before:
Get a good night’s sleep.
Avoid salty foods — they can contribute to swelling.
Wash your face well & keep your skin clean & makeup-free if possible.
Day of Your Appointment:
Arrive with a clean face – no makeup, lotions, or oils if possible.
Wear comfortable clothes – especially if you'll be lying back in the chair.
Eat a small meal before your appointment to prevent feeling lightheaded.
You can apply ice before coming in if you tend to bruise easily.
Bring any questions or concerns – your provider will go over everything with you, but it’s always good to come prepared.

Immediately After Treatment (First 24–48 Hours):
Expect mild swelling, redness, or bruising – this is normal & typically subsides within a few days.
Apply a cold compress or ice pack gently (wrapped in a cloth) for 10–15 minutes at a time to reduce swelling & discomfort.
Keep your head elevated for a few hours post-treatment & try to sleep on your back the first night if possible.
Avoid touching, pressing, or massaging the area – unless your injector specifically advised otherwise.
You can take acetaminophen (Tylenol) if you experience mild soreness (avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen or aspirin unless prescribed).
Avoid for 24–48 Hours
Strenuous exercise – working out increases blood flow, which can worsen swelling or bruising.
Alcohol & caffeine – they can dilate blood vessels & increase bruising.
Excessive heat – like saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, or very hot showers.
Makeup – ideally, avoid for the first 12 hours; if necessary, use clean brushes & gentle, non-comedogenic products.
Facial treatments – no facials, chemical peels, microneedling, or lasers for 1–2 weeks unless your provider says otherwise.
In the Days Following (2–7 Days)
Minor lumps or bumps may appear – this is usually swelling & will go down. If they persist longer than a week or feel firm, contact your provider.
Continue to stay hydrated — HA attracts water, so drinking plenty of fluids helps your skin look plump and fresh.
Some bruising may appear deeper or darker before it fades — using Arnica gel or oral Arnica montana can help speed this up.
Results will continue to improve over several days as swelling settles & the filler integrates with your tissue.
When to Contact Your Provider:
Call your injector right away if you experience:
Increasing pain or swelling after 48 hours
Discoloration (especially white, blue, or dusky skin) near or around the injection site
Severe asymmetry
Fever, chills, or signs of infection
Lumps that feel hard or painful weeks later
